Qilin, or Kirin in Japanese, is a sacred and auspicious creature along with the “Dragon”, “Turtle” and “Phoenix”, and it is said that it appears only during the reign of an Illustrious King or on the arrival of a sage according to Chinese legend.
Since its apparition in the common language, people call a young person who was a prodigy during childhood and who is expected to have huge success in the future a “Kirin-ji”, or a Qilin Child.
It is said that the nature of Qilin is very calm and gentle, disliking killing, bringing “peace”, “wisdom” and “prosperity”.
